The grapes for this wine were sourced from the northern end of the King Valley. The Shiraz grapes were harvested, processed and bottled on the Paul Bettio King Valley Estate.
The vintage started warm, quickly became very hot and finally ended with a run of cooler and pleasant days, ideal for ripening . The rain came heavily at very regular intervals creating issues with exhuberant canopy growth; a welcome problem from the opposite extremes of the 2007 vintage.
This vintage port is an enticing rarity in the King Valley; dark crmson in colour with blackberry, liquorice and raisins all detectable in the palate. Cellared in a cool dark place this wine will continue to improve for many years.
Excellent with dark rich fruit cakes, strongly flavoured blue cheeses, quality chocolates and as atraditional after dinner drink with strong black coffee. Once opened the wine should be decantered and consumed within a few days.
